Creating a home during the height of the pandemic was daunting, and at times scary. But ultimately, one of the most rewarding projects to date. As the lockdown started, my client and her young family fled NYC for Long Island, landing in a stunning albeit stodgily furnished home. The problem was my client is one of the most colorful, fun-loving people I know, and while her new house was great, the furniture was not. Together, we took each room as a challenge. A dark, traditional dining table? How about we lacquer it lime green and Yves Klein blue? Kids’ rooms with brass beds and heavy drapes? How about tented trundles and magical wallpapers? The house became alive with new beginnings. It is decidedly elegant without taking itself too seriously. Sophisticated and fun. Just like my client.
