When my clients moved into the penthouse of their Central Park West apartment building, the interior was taken down to the beams, and I strove to keep the bones of the circa 1929 Rosario Candela building in tact. But my clients had a special request when it came to furnishing their new home. They had become enamored with the Mid-century Modern style and this was their main directive. When I first worked with them a few years back (and a few floors down) they had a decidedly bohemian take on decor. Now, Saarinen and Ponti were names on the shortlist. The trick, as always, was to Create a home that spoke to the Mid-century aesthetic without letting it become a cartoon of itself. I found a mix of iconic 20th century pieces, and also new designs (and designers) that embodied the same rules of MCM, but done with a new take bringing everything into the twenty-first century.
