I have been finding myself wanting to insert a little disco-glam into my design as of late. I still love my rich woods and clean lines, I’m just really vibing on chrome and plush velvets and strong colors and more modern materials, particularly plastics.
Kartell, the Italian company who has been designing furniture and accessories with plastics since the 60s (it made car parts before that) has always stood out to me for their unlikely combination of classic style and crazy futuristic materials.
Kartell has a store in SOHO and much available at ABC Home. And a little bit goes a long way. But, you can see that there are some pieces that are now just inherently classic in their form. I’d take one of these Bloom pendant lights (above) in a heartbeat. And while the Philippe Starck Louis XVI Ghost chairs have become a bit ubiquitous (though a true modern day icon), the other pieces in the line are really worth a look. I love that loveseat (can you see it?!) !
The pic above is from the store in SoHo, which is like a disco Disneyland dream. Fun for a walk thru.
I do think that adding something Kartell to your space can be a great shot in the arm. The opposite of subtle or sedate. Some pretty damn fun stuff. XODesign, Furniture, Ghost Chair, Italian, Kartell, Philippe Starck, Plastic, SOHO, Store
