Apartment Therapy did a story on the loft I worked on to create a home for a family in TriBeCa. They are calling it a “Before & After”, though it’s more of an “Empty & Full” kind of situation. This was a big, open beautiful space with a Brick wall of floor to ceiling windows as the pièce de résistance. But there was a real struggle on how to figure out the best use of the long space.
My client and I decided to create two sitting areas. The large open space with the crazy comfortable Timothy Oulton sofa was meant for the two super rampunctios boys to use a full on play. That couch can take jumping and spilling and thrashing and sleeping with ease. The second, slightly more “formal” space is meant for quieter times and maybe the occasional adult cocktail once the kids are down. Mostly the furnishings though, are meant to be interchangeable with chairs going where ever, and ottomans on casters for quick moving (and really good racing).
What mattered most though was my amazing client, who loves color, wanted a 100% family (kid) friendly space and a home full of joy. XO.
